University of Aberdeen
Senior Lecturer in Music Education / Freelance Practitioner
Scotland, United Kingdom
I have worked as a music education lecturer at the University of Aberdeen since 2012 and I am Programme Director of the BMus (Hons) Education programme and Performance Coordinator in the department. I have over twenty years teaching experience and I continue to spend one day per week teaching music technology in schools and working as a creative practitioner in various contexts. My professional career has involved teaching and leading participatory music and multi arts projects in various different contexts, including in school, out of school and in a range of community settings. I am interested in working with teachers to develop sustainable practice, as opposed to simply 'parachuting in' with one-off projects.

I am also a part time PhD student, supervised by Raymond MacDonald at the University of Edinburgh and I am exploring the teaching and learning of jazz and improvisation in secondary schools.

My practice and research focuses a lot on creativity as well as exploring the role of improvisation and informal approaches to music making.
